Despite a hectic tour schedule which takes them to many Southern cities, the Brock McGuire Band made an early start in a Nashville studio on Tuesday to record their parts for a John Cowan track.
The track called Cumberland Plateau was co-written by John Cowan and Darrell Scott. John generously donated the song to the project in the early days of planning but it was just this week that there was a chance to add some Irish magic.
The Brock McGuire band includes Sligo fiddler Manus McGuire, accordion player Paul Brock, tenor banjo player Enda Scahill and pianist Denis Carey. Despite the early start and a deadline that would allow the band a quick trip to Chatanooga for a radio interview, the session went extremely well.

Darrell is well known as a great singer and performer and his solo albums have earned rave reviews worldwide in recent years. He is one of the most sought after songwriters in Nashville having already had hit songs for the Dixie Chicks, Sara Evans and Travis Tritt, whose version of Darrell's "Great Day to be Alive" was a huge worldwide success and the feelgood song of the year back in 2000. Darrell has given us a previously unreleased song called "This Beggar's Heart". Darrell is also putting the finishing touches to his own new album "Hank Williams' Ghost" which will be out soon.

02/18/06 Pauline Scanlon Records for Blue Merle Track

Pauline Scanlon
Irish Singer Pauline Scanlon
Irish singer Pauline Scanlon made the trip to Dublin this week to record vocals as part of her collaboration with rising Nashville band Blue Merle. The song is a remixed version of Part of your History from their new hit album Burning in the Sun.
Pauline, who is from the beautiful town of Dingle in Co Kerry, made a name for herself as the singer with Sharon Shannon's band and her solo album Red Color Sun was one of the most innovative and critically acclaimed CDs to come out of Ireland in many years.
Pauline was ably assisted in the studio by Bill Shanley who has been Mary Black's guitarist for many years and who will also be appearing as a musician on the album. For this though Bill gave us his studio, time and engineering skills.
